At 2 p.m., it was 36 degrees and sleeting at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, according to the National Weather Service. Among the Weather Service's other reporting stations, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport reported light rain and 36 degrees, DeKalb-Peachtree and Fulton County airports reported light rain and 37, and it was 35 and raining at Falcon Field in Peachtree City.

Snow is already falling in some of the 50 counties under a winter storm warning through 10 a.m. Thursday. Gov. Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency for disaster preparedness starting at 2 p.m. Forecasters warn that the system could bring accumulations from around 2 inches in metro Atlanta and upwards of 6 inches in the mountain counties.
