Atlanta road crews hit the streets late Monday to prepare for wintry weather. But with Tuesday's accumulation inside the perimeter amounting to little more than slush, Atlanta City Hall is looking ahead to Wednesday, when forecasters say the area could see snow.
Mayor Kasim Reed spokeswoman Anne Torres said the city is opening its joint operations center -- where police, fire, public works and other city departments coordinate on storm preparation plans -- with a skeleton crew on Tuesday.
Atlanta City Hall opened on time Tuesday morning, though solid waste pick-up will be delayed by a day for customers whose garbage is collected on Wednesday and Thursday.
Road crews with the Department of Public Works began working 12-hour shifts Monday night to treat the city's priority bridges and routes. The department has seven brine trucks, 15 salt spreaders, 10 snow plows and 770 tons of salt mixture, according to the city.
