Plan to sit in traffic, metro Atlanta.

By 2 p.m. Friday, bottlenecks were already reported on the Downtown Connector and other metro interstates.

According to an alert on the Georgia Department of Transportation's website , "motorists should expect heavier than normal congestion on interstates throughout" the state because of the Memorial Day weekend.

GDOT identified the Downtown Connector, both directions of I-75 through Clayton and Henry counties, northbound lanes of I-75 in Cobb County and northbound lanes of I-85 in Gwinnett County as "areas that will be especially congested.

"Motorists should use alternate routes or allow for extra travel time to get to their destinations."

For alternate routes and updated traffic conditions, check the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center , follow the AJC WSB Traffic Center on Twitter or call 511.
