The Lilburn Planning Commission has recommended approval of a proposed mixed-use development on the southwest corner of Main Street and Lawrenceville Highway. The project would be a key piece in the ongoing redevelopment of downtown Lilburn, officials say.
Nacoochee Corporation plans to build on the 7.7-acre site that sits across Main Street from the future City Hall-Library site.
The Lilburn Downtown Development Authority owns the property, which is zoned for commercial use.
The developer plans businesses fronting Lawrenceville Highway and Main Street, and a multi-story residential building fronting Church Street and Main Street. A parking deck would be constructed in the center of the square with the same design elements of the businesses and homes.
"This project fits within the Comprehensive Plan and our vision for the redevelopment of Lilburn by providing different housing options not currently located in the city," said Doug Stacks, Director of Planning and Economic Development.
There was a public hearing during the Planning Commission meeting on Dec. 18. The Commission voted 4-0 (Kathy Rice absent) to recommend approval of a Special Use Permit to accommodate the housing component.
There will be a second public hearing and City Council will consider final approval of the permit on Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 76 Main St.
