Atlanta Police Ready for tonight; Hoping for calm

Officials with the Atlanta Police Department are preparing for tonight’s round of protests with, “no fear.”

APD Deputy Police Chief C.J. Davis, at an afternoon news briefing said there have been no incidents in Atlanta related to Monday night’s Ferguson decision. Neither does she expect any tonight.

“We have had no indication that we will have any types of concerns today,” Davis said.

A protest rally is scheduled tonight at Underground Atlanta and Davis said APD has been meeting with other law enforcement agencies as well as members of the clergy and college students.

“We will not tolerate any violations of the law,” Davis said. “But we don’t expect that.”

Davis said she is expecting around 200 people at Underground. She said overtime would be available to officers, who will also be working on 12-hour shifts.
