Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has admitted to abusing painkillers in the past and as recently as five months ago claimed to have not had a drink in 15 years. But he was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance, and now many are wondering if NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will deal with an owner as severely as he does the league's players.
If Irsay has relapsed, that’s far more significant than anything else that may come his way, including the four felony charges stemming from his arrest. Carmel, Ind., police said they found "multiple prescription drugs ... in pill bottles." The police report said the “Schedule IV prescription drugs were not associated with any prescription bottles found in the vehicle."
Aside from personal and legal issues, Irsay presumably will be disciplined by Goodell. He should. This commissioner is swift when dealing with any legal problems by players, issuing suspensions and fines, and he should be at least that strict with one of the league’s 32 owners.
Almost on cue, Falcons wide received Roddy White, seldom shy with his opinions, is weighing in on Twitter.
I want to see what the NFL does about this Jim Irsay situation if a player loses a game check no matter the amount he should lose a game day
I don't think Irsay is a bad guy I actually like him as an owner but it was a bad mistake
It's safe to assume White isn't the only player watching what Goodell does next.
