Class AAAAAA sees a new No. 1 in Milton after Parkview tumbles to No. 7 after a 3-3 start, the Panthers’ most recent loss to No. 3 Mountain View who jumps five spots. Will Ethridge cranked out two hits including a homerun, but it was the only run Parkview scored as they fell to the Bears 2-1. The newly top-ranked Eagles will face a tough test in Woodstock, who handed No. 2 Walton its first loss of the year on Monday.
No. 6 Jones County has raced out to a fast start in AAAAA behind the sweet strokes of Jordan Miller and Teldrick Ross. Ross, a sophomore, leads the team with seven RBIs and is batting .438 while Miller is batting .471. No. 5 Kell has won five straight games large in part to some stellar pitching. University of Montevallo signee Anthony Porter is 3-0 with a 1.02 ERA. Keep an eye on No. 8 Columbus. The Blue Devils have outscored their opponents 29-1 so far this year.
Locust Grove takes over the No. 1 spot in AAAA after shutting out No. 2 Buford 3-0. The Wolves quickly bounced back with a 13-3 win over Mountain View and will look to test their momentum at the Perfect Game Tournament against some of the nation’s best. Cairo jumps all the way to No. 6 as the Syrupmakers debut in the poll. They are 10-0 and have outscored opponents 100-10.
AAA No. 1 Blessed Trinity is rocking and rolling behind its strong pitching staff and a slick hitting freshman. John Michael Bertrand has transitioned well from the hardwood to the pitching mound collecting a 2-0 record with a 0.62 ERA. Hayden Lehman (0.55) and Peyton Glavine (2.62) have both complied solid ERAs. Freshman Ryan Davis leads the team in batting with a .462 average.
Jake Gilley has 10 RBIs and a .478 through seven games for undefeated No. 3 Bowdon in AA. Justin Ingle, another junior, is 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. No. 5 Jeff Davis has won seven in a row following a 10-9 loss to No. 1 Wesleyan on Feb. 19. Brennan Crooms has been dazzling on the mound and at the plate for No. 10 Metter. He already has two triples and a homer to go with his seven RBIs while on the mound he has 27 punchouts and a 0.91 ERA.
Usual suspects No. 1 King’s Ridge and No. 2 Hebron Christian lead the way in Class A. No. 4 Schley County is an early front runner to get back to the title game while No. 7 Taylor County at 9-0 is a surprise team looking to gain respect after a 14-14 finish a year ago.
