Story update: Dixon promises to bring up-tempo practice to Walton

Maurice "Mo" Dixon, a former defensive coordinator at North Gwinnett, is the new head football coach at Walton, the Cobb County school announced Tuesday.
Dixon was the defensive coordinator at Byrnes High in South Carolina for the 2013, but he’s better known in Georgia for heading up the defenses at North Gwinnett from 2007, when the Bulldogs reached the Class AAAAA championship game, through 2012.
North Gwinnett had 12 shutouts during Dixon’s seven seasons.
Dixon has been a head coach at North Broward Prep in Florida and Knott County Central and Hazard in his native Kentucky.
Dixon will be replacing Rocky Hidalgo, who took the head coaching job at Glynn Academy in Brunswick. Walton was the 2011 Class AAAAA runner-up in 2011. The team finished 6-5 in 2013.
