Update: Jake Fromm was 1-for-3 with a two-run double and scored two runs Monday in Houston County's 9-4 victory over Gainesville in Game 1 of their Class AAAAA semifinal series. Gainesville won 2-1 in Game 2. Fromm had a double in that one.

Jake Fromm, who is committed to Georgia as a four-star quarterback, is getting to do something Monday that he hasn’t accomplished in football, and that’s to play in a state semifinal.

Houston County's baseball team is playing at Gainesville in a double-header Monday. Fromm is the team's No. 3 hitter and third baseman. The Class AAAAA semifinal would have a third and deciding game Tuesday if necessary.

Fromm, rated the No. 3 pro-style quarterback prospect in the country among rising seniors, has led the Bears’ football team to consecutive quarterfinal games. He’ll get another chance to the the Bears further in the fall.

For now, he’s having a good time in his other sport. In the quarterfinals, Fromm was a big part of Houston County’s sweep of Columbus. In the first game, Fromm was 3-for-3 with a double. Houston County won 5-4 after trailing 4-2 entering the final inning.

In Game 2, Houston County trailed 7-3 entering the seventh inning and scored four to tie, then one in the eighth to win. Fromm had a double in that game, too.

This is not the first time Fromm has been in the semifinals. Houston County won a state title in 2014, Fromm’s freshman season. Only Fromm, leadoff hitter Blake Dawson and cleanup hitter/pitcher Tanner Hall remain from that team. Houston County also played Gainesville in the semifinals that spring, when Fromm hit .307 as a freshman.

Fromm is one of several outstanding Houston County players.

D.L. Hall is another. The Florida State commit was 5-for-6 in the Gainesville series. That came just days after Hall threw a one-hit, 10-strikeout shutout in the third and deciding game against Cambridge in the second round.

No. 1 starter Tony Locey, a transfer from Hardaway in Columbus, has signed with Georgia. He has allowed only 10 hits and struck out 28 in his 18 playoff innings.

The other semifinal series are below.

In Class A, Hebron Christian plays at Tattnall Square today in the deciding third game of their private-school championship series. Truetlen defeated Trion on Saturday to win the Class A public-school title.
