Blessed Trinity took care of business on Friday night against its biggest region rival and is now sitting pretty. The No. 2 Titans’ 24-10 win over Westminster all but iced the Region 4-AAA Division B title and set up a likely showdown for the region title with No. 4 Cedar Grove.
Blessed Trinity (7-0) was in a battle all night. The game was tied 10-10 at halftime, as Westminster carried plenty of playoff motivation. But in the end the Titans had too much Milton Shelton.
Shelton, the senior tailback, rushed 22 times for 173 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Conor Davis completed 10 of 13 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown.
The TItans also scored on a 20-yard field goal from the reliable Books Hosea and put the game away by scoring on a 13-yard option pass from J.D. Bertrand to tight end Garrett Dupuis.
It was a slow night for the ranked teams in AAA, with four of the top-10s taking the night off.
No. 7 Central Carroll rolls on: The Lions (7-0) overpowered Pepperell, who entered with a five-game winning streak. Central unleashed its powerful running game for 409 yards, with Damarious Owensby and Byron Bell combining for 299 yards and four touchdowns.
No. 5 Peach is beached: After laying an egg the previous week against Spencer, Jackson recovered to knock off the No. 5 Trojans. The Red Devils kept a Peach offense that had averaged 32 points over its last five games out of the end zone. Errors cost the Trojans; two touchdowns were called back because of penalties and they missed a short field goal.
Jefferson calls off the dogs early: No. 3 Jefferson scored all its points in the 49-0 win over Jackson County in the first half and played reserves the second half. The Dragons ran for 364 yards and Colby Wood was limited to five carries for 114 yards and one touchdown. Darrien Hill rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown and Zack Boobas scored three touchdowns.
