Notable Friday performances in AAAA
--Woodward Academy RB Elijah Holyfield rushed 174 yards and two first-quarter touchdowns in a dominating performance by the War Eagles over Lovett.
--Cartersville sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 24 of 33 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns in only three quarters in the top-ranked Purple Hurricanes' 45-7 rout of North Paulding. h/t Daily Tribune
--The Howard Huskies improved to 4-0, setting a school record for wins with a 42-8 rout of Rutland on Friday. The Huskies host 3-1 West Laurens this week.
--Unbeaten Bainbridge got a strong performance from quarterback Brett McLaughlin in a 34-7 win over Monroe. According to the Albany Herald, McLaughlin went 20 of 26 for 245 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.
Games to Watch
Eagle’s Landing (3-0) at Spalding (3-0): Two-way star Antonio Gibson has been a playmaker during Eagle’s Landing’s hot start that includes an impressive 17-7 win over previously unbeaten Jonesboro. GSpalding has outscored its first three opponents 102-16. The Jaguars have are 5-3 against Eagle’s Landing, but the teams met twice last season with the Golden Eagles winning both games.
Carrollton (0-3) at North Hall (1-1): A battle between two programs striving to get back to their previous heights, Carrollton heads to The Brickyard looking to avoid its first 0-4 start in the modern era. The Trojans missed the playoffs for the first time in 26 seasons last year. North Hall made several deep playoff runs under former coach Bob Christmas (2001-2013), but went 2-8 last season under current coach David Bishop.
