Cartersville sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 12 of 14 passes for 343 yards with five touchdowns in the first half in the top-ranked Purple Hurricanes’ 49-0 win over Lafayette. A highly-touted pro-style quarterback, Lawrence has completed 67.3 percent of his passes with 31 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He went over the 2,000 yards passing for the season in the win.
Cartersville (9-0, 6-0 Region 7-AAAA) will play at Pickens this week in a winner-take-all showdown for the region title. The Purple Hurricanes have won all 19 meetings with Pickens, including 27-2 last week.

Woodward Academy running back Elijah Holyfield returned the opening kickoff 80 yards and scored twice more in the War Eagles’ 28-7 win over Whitewater on Friday. Holyfield, who is committed to Georgia, finished with 132 yards rushing on 22 carries. He scored on runs of 3 and 2 yards.
No. 3 Woodward Academy (9-0, 4-0 Region 5-AAAA) will host Carrollton (5-4, 3-1) on Friday for the region title.

Stephens County (8-1, 6-0 Region 8-AAAA) at Buford (8-1, 6-0): Since having its 42-game winning streak snapped by McEachern of Class AAAAAA, Buford has been on a tear. The Wolves have outscored region opponents by an average score of 51.6-2.2, including three shutouts. Stephens County shut down North Oconee 24-7 on Friday to set up the winner-take-all showdown with Buford. The Indians have lost all three meetings with the Wolves, most recently 56-0 last season.
