The best-known quarterback in loaded Region 1-AAAAAA is No. 1 Houston County's Jake Fromm, but No. 2 Northside of Warner Robins has a signal-caller who can do things that Fromm can't - be a major threat running the ball.
Tobias Oliver, a senior, rushed for 200 yards in Northside's 48-7 victory over Ware County last week. Oliver also is an effective passer. He has completed 51 of 83 attempts this season for 577 yards and seven touchdowns. Oliver, rated the No. 31 senior prospect in Georgia by 247Sports, occasionally is used as a receiver. He has four catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.
‘’Tobias Oliver is like having three players in one,’’ Northside coach Kevin Kinsler said. “He is a threat as a runner, which defenses have to account for. However, he is also an efficient passer with a good TD per-completion ratio. Because he is so versatile he will also line up at receiver where has the ability to make things happen with his feet and elusiveness.’’
Kinsler said Oliver’s biggest asset is probably his competitiveness.
‘’He may not always look polished in his three roles, but he finds a way to make plays, and his competitiveness is contagious,’’ Kinsler said. “Because of his roles, it opens up opportunities for other players on offense which puts even more pressure on opposing defenses.’’
