Adairsville at Calhoun

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Phil Reeve Stadium, Calhoun

Records, rankings: Adairsville is 4-0 overall, 2-0 in Region 6-AAA and No. 10; Calhoun is 5-0, 3-0 and No. 2.

Last meeting: Calhoun won 34-0 in 2009.

Three things to know: 1. Adairsville, which is ranked for the first time since 2003, got a balanced effort in a 42-3 victory against Sonoraville last week. Sidnee Johnson rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns and has 548 yards for the season. QB Marcus Childers was 10-for-12 passing for 63 yards and two TDs and rushed for 78 yards. The Tigers also got touchdowns on a punt return by Torrey Hale and a fumble return by Daelen Harrison. 2. Junior QB Kaelan Riley is the leader of the balanced Calhoun offense, which has 950 yards rushing and 942 passing for the season. Riley has rushed for 260 yards and four touchdowns on 58 carries and is 45-for-76 passing for 774 yards and six TDs. Riley ran for one touchdown and passed for another against Ringgold last week in a 27-13 victory, the Yellow Jackets lowest point total in a region game since 2009. 3. Adairsville and Calhoun are the only 6-AAA teams that are undefeated overall, and the winner will be the heavy favorite to win the region title. Calhoun has won nine straight games in the series.

Allatoona at Alexander

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Cougar Stadium, Douglasville

Records, rankings: Allatoona is 5-0 overall, 4-0 in Region 5-AAAAA and No. 10; Alexander is 4-0, 3-0 and unranked.

Last meeting: This is the teams' first meeting.

Three things to know: 1. Allatoona is averaging 429 yards per game in total offense. RB Russell Halimon has rushed for 962 yards and 11 touchdowns on 152 carries (192.4 yards per game). QB Conner Larson is 44-for-67 passing for 828 yards and six TDs. The Buccaneers were held to a season-low 304 yards in a 33-13 victory over South Paulding last week, although reserves played much of the second half. 2. Alexander is 4-0 for the first time in school history. Junior QB Baylor Whitfield is 55-for-92 passing for 625 yards and seven touchdowns. Caleb Freeman leads the Cougars in rushing with 346 yards and four TDs on 76 carries, and Isaac Zico leads the receivers with 287 yards on 18 catches. 3. Both teams have preseason all-state running backs that missed the first three games for disciplinary reasons. Allatoona's Josh Bettistea has carried 22 times this season for 101 yards, including 52 on eight carries against South Paulding. Alexander's Mikell Lands-Davis returned to the lineup last week and rushed for 106 yards on 16 carries.

Central Gwinnett at Dacula

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Barron Field, Dacula

Records, rankings: Central Gwinnett is 3-1 overall, 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA and unranked; Dacula is 5-0, 3-0 and No. 8.

Last meeting: Dacula won 24-6 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. Central Gwinnett is a pass-first team, again. Left-handed QB Eric Forrest is 72-of-128 for 1,222 yards and eight touchdowns. WR Major Bellamy has 27 catches for 595 yards, which led the state until last week, when his team was off and he was passed by players with more games. LB Adonis Thomas (committed to Florida) is averaging 11 tackles per game - he had 14 solo stops in the opening loss to Collins Hill - and has three sacks. 2. Dacula averages 275.6 yards rushing per game and only 34.4 passing.  C.J. Mayes, an outstanding two-way player, is the leading rusher with 330 yards, but Dacula has seven different backs with a touchdown, none more than three. The big-play makers on defense are MLB/NG Bijan Sirleaf (team-leading seven tackles for losses) and LB Corey Ames (six TFLs, one interception and a blocked kick for a touchdown). 3. Dacula has won eight of the past 10 in this series. Dacula sacked Forrest six times in the 2013 game that featured a scoreless second half. Jacque Evangelister rushed for 108 yards. The winner of this game will have its best start since 2006, Dacula 6-0 or Central Gwinnett 4-1.

Charlton County at Irwin County

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Indian Field, Ocilla

Records, rankings: Charlton County is 5-0 overall, 2-0 in Region 2-A and No. 5; Irwin County is 3-1-1, 2-0 and No. 9.

Last meeting: Charlton County won 34-33 in the 2013 Class A public-school semifinals.

Three things to know: 1. These teams split two meetings in 2013, with Irwin winning 29-26 in the regular season, and Charlton getting revenge five weeks later in the state semifinals. Irwin won the first game on Eric Contreras' 33-yard field goal with 3.3 seconds left. Charlton won the second game when Contreras' extra-point attempt was blocked with 4 seconds left. 2. Irwin County RB/DB Jakyron Young is his team's most recruited player. He has a Georgia Southern offer. Last week against Telfair County, he rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns on just four attempts and caught a 28-yard pass. He also made two solo tackles on defense, one that saved a touchdown in a 48-21 victory against a previously unbeaten opponent. He has rushed for 484 yards, intercepted a pass and blocked a kick this season. 3. Charlton County RB Andrew Lee rushed for 228 yards and scored four touchdowns in the 2013 semifinal game. This season, Lee has rushed for 901 yards. Charlton QB Jimmy Nettles was 14-of-17 passing for 217 yards and two touchdowns last week against Turner County.

Darlington at Model

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Blue Devil Stadium, Rome

Records, rankings: Darlington is 4-1 overall, 1-0 in Region 7-AA and No. 8; Model is 5-0, 1-0 and No. 10.

Last meeting: Darlington won 33-13 in 2007.

Three things to know: 1. Darlington's Trey Edge was second in Class AA in rushing with 664 yards going into last week's games, and he didn't hurt his standing with a 207-yard, two-touchdown effort in a 25-14 victory against Gordon Lee. QB Carter Dingler passed for 151 yards and had a 34-yard TD pass midway through the third quarter that gave the Tigers the lead for good. 2. Model is ranked this week for the first time since 1980, the year after it went 15-0 and won the Class AA championship. It is doing it with a defense that ranks fourth in AA, giving up 8.8 points per game. The Blue Devils held Dade County to 173 total yards in a 24-0 victory last week, according to the Rome News-Tribune. V.J. Saxton recorded a safety, and Tyler Dean and Brendan Thomas had interceptions. 3. Darlington leads this series between Rome schools 21-6 and has won the past 10 meetings (all by at least 14 points), although they haven't played each other since 2007. The winner will be the favorite to capture the 7-AA title. No other team in the region has a winning record.

Lee County at Tift County

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Brodie Field, Tifton

Records, rankings: Lee County is 4-0 overall, 0-0 in Region 1-AAAAAA and unranked; Tift County is 5-0, 0-0 and unranked.

Last meeting: Tift County won 28-21 in 2003.

Three things to know: 1. Lee County QB Garet Morrell leads Region 1 in passing despite his team having played one fewer game than the rest. He is 55-of-87 for 937 yards and 10 touchdowns. Top targets are Tray Eafford (314 yards) and J.Q. Quimbly (283). Each has 16 catches. The leading rusher is Willie Kelley (180 yards). 2. Tift County's Tajhea Chambers is the most dynamic quarterback in the region. He has rushed for 330 yards and eight touchdowns and passed for 538 yards and five touchdowns. WR Malik Henry has eight catches for 109 yards. The leading rusher is Berry Bennett with 503 yards on 79 carries. 3. Lee County and Tift County are two of 14 teams statewide that are unbeaten but unranked. The skepticism largely involves their schedules. The Maxwell Ratings rank Lee County's schedule as the easiest and Tift County's as seventh-easiest in Class AAAAAA. Lee is moving up from Class AAAAA, where the Trojans made the second round last season. Tift was 5-5 last season and seeks to start 6-0 for the first time since 1993.

Lowndes at Colquitt County

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Mack Tharpe Memorial Stadium, Moultrie

Records, rankings: Lowndes is 5-0 overall, 0-0 in Region 1-AAAAAA and No. 3; Colquitt County is 5-0, 0-0 and No. 1.

Last meeting: Colquitt County won 37-7 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. Per tradition, Lowndes runs the ball about 80 percent of the time. The leading rusher is Dezmon Copeland with 474 yards and five touchdowns. Lowndes is a defensive-minded team that is especially hard against the run, allowing only 144.8 yards per game on the ground. NG Corveon White has 10 sacks for 90 yards in losses. LB Brian Bell, committed to LSU, has 20 solo tackles. 2. Colquitt's offense is diverse and productive, as always. Preseason all-state RB Sihiem King has rushed for 506 yards and nine touchdowns. First-year starting QB Chase Parrish is 78-of-109 passing for 870 yards and nine touchdowns. Colquitt has the two leading receivers in the region in Ty Lee (20 catches, 348 yards, five TDs) and Kiel Pollard (19-256-2). On defense, Colquitt has held each opponent to 14 points or less, the first five-game streak of its kind since coach Rush Propst's arrival in 2008. 3. Colquitt County has three Top 10 national rankings and a streak of five seasons making the semifinals or better, but the Packers have not gone unbeaten in region play since 1999. Propst is 2-4 against Lowndes, 2-4 against Valdosta and 2-2 against Camden County.

Mays at Creekside

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Arrowhead Stadium, Fairburn

Records, rankings: Mays is 4-1 overall, 0-0 in Region 6-AAAAA Div. B and No. 6; Creekside is 4-1, 0-0 and No. 2.

Last meeting: Mays won 24-12 in 2003.

Three things to know: 1. Returning from an injury that cost him two games, Mays QB Asahnia Aderhold threw five TD passes in a 40-35 victory over Lovejoy last week. WR Julius Whitehead, who had only one reception before the Lovejoy game, caught three of the TD passes. On defense, DE Natrez Patrick has a team-leading six sacks, 13 QB hurries and three forced fumbles. 2. Creekside's Bricen Terry has rushed for 530 yards and seven touchdowns in four games. He runs behind Venzell Boulware (Tennessee) and Marquel Harrell (Auburn), offensive linemen who are committed to SEC schools. DB Joshua Moon, who committed last week to Georgia Southern, is having a big year. He had 16 tackles, two for losses, in a 28-14 victory over Stephenson and ran a punt for a touchdown the week before against Druid Hills. 3. These are two of three ranked teams from Region 6. The other is Stephenson, the favorite to win the other subregion. The winner of this game would be considered the favorite to play the other subregion's winner in a region title game on Nov. 7. The loser is probably looking at no better than a third-place region finish and a first-game road trip in the playoffs.

Norcross at North Gwinnett

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday, Tom Robinson Memorial Stadium, Suwanee

Records, rankings: Norcross is 4-1 overall, 2-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA and unranked; North Gwinnett is 4-1, 2-0 and No. 7.

Last meeting: Norcross won 31-14 in the 2013 Class AAAAAA championship game.

Three things to know: 1. Griffin Barker is Norcross' leading passer with 562 yards for the season, but Jacob Gassert made his first start of the season at the position in the Blue Devils' 38-0 victory against Duluth last week. He was 6-for-9 passing for 103 yards. Jamir Billings has rushed 87 times for 481 yards, including 94 of the team's 195 against Duluth. 2. North Gwinnett QB John Urzua leads the state in passing with 1,619 yards and is on pace to break the state's single-season yardage record if the Bulldogs reach the state final. His top target is Josh Imatorbhebhe, who leads Gwinnett County in TD receptions with seven and is second in yards with 597. The Bulldogs average 115 yards per game rushing, led by Kameron Pickett's 257 total yards and five TDs. 3. Norcross beat North Gwinnett in the state final to win its second consecutive Class AAAAAA title, but North Gwinnett won 36-17 when the teams met in the third game of the regular season. Nate Brown, now a freshman at Missouri, caught four touchdown passes as North Gwinnett dominated after an early 14-0 deficit. That was the only time Norcross has lost a region game since 2011.

Valdosta at Camden County

When, where: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Chris Gilman Stadium, Kingsland

Records, rankings: Valdosta is 5-0 overall, 0-0 in Region 1-AAAAAA and No. 5, Camden County is 5-0, 0-0 and No. 2.

Last meeting: Camden County won 14-10 in 2013.

Three things to know: 1. Valdosta has two of the top six passers in Region 1-AAAAAA. Junior Seth Shuman is 21-of-46 for 367 yards and five touchdowns, while senior Cole Massingill is 37-of-58 for 355 yards with two TDs. Neither has thrown an interception. But the Wildcats are winning with defense. Valdosta has allowed just 10 points this season, all of which came in a 28-10 victory against Thomas County Central on Aug. 29. 2. Camden County averages 372 yards per game rushing and just 39.4 passing. The Wildcats have three of the top seven rushers in 1-AAAAAA. Brandon McMaster leads the region with 544 yards on 44 carries (12.4 ypc) and had 148 yards in a 24-7 victory over Wayne County two weeks ago. Antonio Wimbush is sixth in the region with 258 yards on 35 carries, followed by Brandon Johnson with 224 yards on 35 carries. 3. The winner of this game will join the Lowndes-Colquitt County and Lee County-Tift County winners as the early leaders in 1-AAAAAA. Camden County has won 13 consecutive and 19 overall region titles. Valdosta has won 35 region titles, with the most recent in 2011.
