It wasn’t the best week to be ranked in the top five in Class AAA. Three of the seven ranked teams that played this weekend lost to non-AAA opponents -- No. 1 Peach County, No. 4 Calhoun and No. 7 Pace Academy. No. 2 Greater Atlanta Christian, No. 3 Cedar Grove and No. 8 Jenkins took the week off.
The Trojans lost to No. 6 Class AAAAA Warner Robins 38-35 on a last-second 35-yard field goal by Eli Mashburn after the Demons got into the position with clutch passes from Dylan Fromm to Marcayll Jones and Dylan's brother, Tyler Fromm. But with time winding down and no timeouts, the Demons faced fourth-and-3 from the 18-yard line as the field goal unit rushed onto the field.
“I was trying to make them hurry,” Peach coach Chad Campbell told the AJC’s Michael Lough after the game. “I didn’t want to ice them or anything like that. They were in a hurry trying to get it off.”
Everything about the game-winning field goal was rushed, but the kick passed just inside of the left upright, giving the Trojans their first loss this season.
-- No. 9 Sonoraville impressed in come-from-behind victory against Cass. Cass took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, and both offenses sputtered before Sonoraville’s defense came alive. Halfway through the third quarter, the Phoenix blocked a punt and recovered the ball at the Cass 25-yard line. Patrick Moore then cut into the lead on an 8-yard touchdown run, and the Phoenix defense got the go-ahead score on a 32-yard fumble return by Chandler Shaw.
"We kept it close there when we weren't really playing well on either side of the ball," Sonoraville coach Denver Pate told the Calhoun Times' Alex Farrer. "In that second half, the defense came back and played their tails off. They carried us. I can't say enough about Chandler Shaw. He's a kid who is getting over a knee injury and this is his second week back. He came up with two huge plays for us tonight ."
Sonoraville plays Dalton this Friday.
-- No. 4 Calhoun lost to Class AAAA No. 1 Cartersville 58-6. Trevor Lawrence put on another show in his efforts to break Deshaun Watson's career passing record. Lawrence, the nation's No. 1 recruit, set the tone early on a 56-yard pass to Jkobe Orr, and the Purple Hurricanes didn't let up. Zach Fuller scored the only touchdown for the Yellow Jackets on an 8-yard run. Calhoun will rest next week before facing Coahulla Creek on Sept. 15 .

-- No. 5 Crisp won 27-0 against Turner County. The Cougars will host Rutland on Sept. 15 .
-- No. 6 Dawson County won against Chattooga, 29-14. The Tigers will host West Hall on Sept. 15 .
-- No. 7 Pace Academy lost 37-3 to Hapeville Charter. The Knights will travel to Class AAAA No. 3 Thomson Friday .
