South Forsyth got a monster performance from running back Tyler LaFlamme and knocked off Chattahoochee, 42-34, Friday at the Cougars’ field.
LaFlamme was rarely brought down by one defender and finished with 350 yards and five touchdowns. It took five Chattahoochee defenders to bring him down on one of his long runs. The senior plowed over a Cougar defender on the way into the end zone for his fourth touchdown, which put South Forsyth up 35-27 in the fourth quarter.
In a Region 6-AAAAAA game full of momentum shifts, South Forsyth took a 28-27 lead into the fourth quarter, after Sam Outlaw capped a 78-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. The lead swelled to 42-27 on LaFlamme’s fifth score with under five minutes to play.
Chattahoochee quarterback Chase Owens’ short touchdown run cut the lead to 42-34 with 1:29 to play, but South Forsyth recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock for its second straight win over the Cougars.
It was all Chattahoochee early. The Cougars jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter, behind three touchdown runs by Blake Hundley.
Making his first start, Owens started off hot, completing seven of his first eight pass attempts, including big plays of 50, 36 and 33 yards to Isaac Kinsey. Owens took over the starter role after Daniel Nicoletta injured his ankle last week against Centennial.
Chattahoochee was in control, up 21-7 in the first quarter, before South Forsyth grabbed the momentum. LaFlamme scored on a 39-yard run midway through second quarter and a blocked punt by Ennor Armah resulted in a safety to cut the deficit to 21-16 at halftime.
LaFlamme’s third touchdown run gave South Forsyth its first lead, 22-21, with nine minutes left in the third quarter. The War Eagles (4-1) racked up close to 400 yards on the ground, behind a strong performance from an offensive line consisting of Riley Street, Caleb Lummus, Toki Adeosun, Griffin Landrum and Dante Arnold and tight end Cameron Kline.
Andrew Gay kicked two field goals for the Cougars (1-4), who have lost three straight.
