With less than two weeks of the regular season left on the slate, seeding for the region tournaments underlies what should be a highly-competitive finish in Class AAAA.

Upson-Lee is the lone undefeated team left in Class AAAA, but the Knights had to survive a scare in a three-overtime battle with Griffin to improve to 20-0. Griffin, which is just 4-16 on the season and 2-6 in Region 3 action nearly pulled off upset before falling 75-68. Upson-Lee returns to the hardwood tonight to visit 6-15 West Laurens, before a trio of home games and a trip to Perry on February 3 close the season.

On the girls side, North Oconee will host Jefferson in an intriguing Region 8 matchup tonight. Jefferson and the top-ranked Titans each remain undefeated region play. North Oconee comes off a dominant 59-29 victory over Oconee County that saw Camryn Williams net a game-high 20 points and teammate Aubrey Monroe score 11. Jefferson hasn’t lost to an instate school since they faced Buford on December 12 and previously beat Oconee County 57-26 this month. In Region 3, Cross Creek is on the fast track to the region’s top seed with a 6-0 region record and 17-4 overall record. The Razorbacks face Hephzibah Tuesday night at home before closing the regular season with a trio of region road games (Thomson, Academy of Richmond County, Baldwin). Cross Creek star Alana Davis has been phenomenal this season with a team-high 17.7 points per game and 11.7 rebounds per game. Davis netted 20 points in last week’s 44-34 win over Baldwin and dropped 18 points in the Razorbacks’ 58-38 win over Baldwin while hauling down 17.5 rebounds per game.

Carver-Columbus had a rough week of top 10 matchups and plummeted in the poll. The Tigers fell to rival Columbus 77-53 before dropping a 62-52 contest at Americus-Sumter.
