Records fall in Hall, Paulding County Championships

Boys:  Gainesville won the boys title at the Hall County Championships … Junior Orrin Ragland of Gainesville set three records at the Hall County Championships, winning the 100 and 200 meter titles in 11.49 seconds and 23.42 seconds, respectively, while also winning the triple jump with a leap of 43-feet, 5 inches … Ragland's teammate, Marcquel Woodard set two county records, winning the 400 meters in 51.38 and the 800 meters in 2:05.44 … North Hall senior Drew Bryant won the discus with a toss of 154-6 ½, the eighth best throw in the state this season … North Paulding won the boys title at the Paulding County Championships South Paulding senior Aaron Jones set three county records winning the 100 meters (11.05), 200 meters (22.14) and long jump (22-7).

Girls:  North Hall won the girls crown at the Hall County ChampionshipsNorth Hall sophomore Trini Puente set two county records, winning the 200 meters in 26.84 and the long jump with a leap of 16-2 ½ … Flowery Branch's 1,600-meter and 3,200 meter relay teams set county records, running 4:22.63 and 10:43.19, respectively … South Paulding won the Paulding County Championship behind the record setting efforts of junior Jazmine Burse, who won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.08 and the shot put with a throw of 33-6 … Sophomore Tionna Fant won the 200 and 400 meter titles for the Spartans in 27.05 and 1:02.85, respectively … South Paulding's 400-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams set county records, finishing in 50.02 and 4:23.58, respectively.

Forest Park girls, Lakeside-DeKalb boys win Grady Midseason Classic

A trio of underclassmen led the Forest Park girls to the championship of the Grady Midseason Classic. Freshman Lauren Epps won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 46.37, while junior Krizma Goodson (18-2) and sophomore Tenetra Mullins (17-9), finished first and second, respectively, in the long jump. Grady senior Nyla Woods, a St. John's signee, won the shot put and discus with throws of 38-8 and 104-2, respectively.

The Lakeside-DeKalb boys were paced by seniors William Johnson, who won the 200 meters (22.71), and Jedrek Higgins, the 800 meter winner (2:00.08), along with sophomore Davis Stockwell (10:14.42), senior Will Smith-Purcell (10:36.79) and junior Dan Nelson (11:09.58), who finished first, second and fourth, respectively, in the 3,200 meters.

iDareU Middle School Showcase

iDareU, the premiere football training group in the southeast, is hosting its third annual combine/camp for middle school students.

The iDareU Middle School Showcase is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the group's Roswell location – 11595 King Road. Pre-registration is $50, through March 20. The walk-up registration fee is $60. All participants will receive a t-shirt, have their photo and all measurable listed on the iDareU website, and the top performers will receive awards at the end of the event.

Current iDareU athletes include UGA cornerback Shaq Wiggins, South Carolina safety Chaz Elder, Stanford defensive back Ronnie Harris, Georgia Tech safeties Isaiah Johnson and Corey Griffin, Indiana cornerback/returner Rashard Fant, and high school all-state performers ML King defensive back Wesley Green, running back Eric Swinney and linebacker Khari Lain of Sandy Creek, offensive tackle Dallas Warmack and linebacker Natrez Patrick of Mays, Our Lady of Mercy defensive back Christian Coleman and Creekside defensive back Cameron Jackson.
