The new rankings were released yesterday, and they've have been fixed. As predicted, Lambert's boys and girls both landed inside of the top 10 of 6A-7A, with the boys coming in at No. 10 and the girls at No. 6. The prior week the boys were ranked No. 4 and the girls were No. 2 in A-5A.
The other improperly ranked teams from last week -- Allatoona's boys and Creekview's girls -- didn't crack this week's top 10 in 6A-7A.
Looking ahead, here are some programs to keep an eye on:
Lambert Longhorns (8-1; No. 1 in 6A-7A)
Upcoming matches: at Chattahoochee (3-6) on Friday; at Westminster (8-1) on April 1.
Notes: The Longhorns are the state's top team, regardless of classification, according to LaxPower.com and, as noted in yesterday's rankings rundown, they're also ranked No. 3 regionally according to USLacrosse Magazine. They'll play Chattahoochee on Friday, then enjoy a week of rest before gearing up to play at the Westminster Wildcats, who is state's top-ranked team in A-5A and ranked No. 11 overall in LaxPower's RPI rankings. The two teams played almost a year to the date on April 2, 2016, with the Longhorns escaping with a 7-6 win at home.
Mill Creek Hawks (11-0; No. 2 in 6A-7A)
Upcoming matches: North Gwinnett (3-6) on Saturday; Collins Hill (4-4) on Wednesday
Notes: As noted in yesterday's rankings release, the Hawks entered the week unranked but have kicked the door open all the way to a No. 2 ranking behind Lambert. They haven't lost a game yet and have to like their chances of staying undefeated through spring break, which begins after the Collins Hill game. In fact, the only team remaining on their regular season schedule that has a winning record is No. 8 Walton. That matchup won't take place until April 24.
Starr's Mill Lady Panthers (7-0; No. 2 in A-5A)
Upcoming matches: Luella (1-1) on Friday; Columbus (0-4) on Thursday (1-1)
Notes: The Lady Panthers are off off to a hot start and look to head into the break undefeated, resuming play on April 11 at No. 7 Wesleyan (4-3). That matchup against the Lady Wolves will easily be their toughest of the season. Only two of their wins have come against teams with winning records, and those teams (Northgate and Union Grove) aren't inside the RPI top 50. Wesleyan has a No. 29 RPI ranking, with Starr's Mill at No. 17.
