Prince Avenue remains, Turner County returns to top of Power Ratings

With just two games left in the regular season for most teams, the Georgia High School Association/MaxPreps Power Ratings are beginning to round into shape. This week we’ll take a little deeper look at the two sides.

Class A Private

Worst Record In:  No. 14 Mt. Pisgah Christian (4-4)

Best Record Out: No. 17 First Presbyterian Day, No. 19 Our Lady of Mercy, No. 20 Fellowship Christian (4-4)

First Team Out:   No. 17 First Presbyterian Day (4-4)

Who Dropped Out: No. 18 Walker (3-5)

Who Jumped In: No. 14 Mt. Pisgah Christian (4-4)

Noteworthy

-- Regions 6 and 8 lead the way right now, each with four teams in. Region’s 3, 4, 5 and 7 have two apiece.

-- Seven teams are most likely battling for the final three spots. No. 14 Mt. Pisgah Christian, No. 15 St. Anne-Pacelli and No. 16 Athens Christian are in right now, with No. 17 First Presbyterian Day, No. 18 Walker, No. 19 Our Lady of Mercy and No. 20 Fellowship Christian still in the mix.

-- Of the three teams in right now, Athens Christian appears to be the most vulnerable. The Eagles have won four straight after beginning the season1-4. But after a bye week on Friday they must close the season hosting No. 13 Hebron Christian (6-2).

-- If one of the final three in slips up, of the four teams on the outside looking in with 4-4 records, Our Lady of Mercy could hold an advantage even though the Bobcats are not favored to win their final two games.  OLM will close the season at Eagle’s Landing Christian Friday and at Landmark Christian next week, both 5-3 currently and both expected to finish 7-3.

-- Meanwhile, Fellowship Christian has a huge game Friday with St. Francis (3-5) for third place in Division B of Region 6. The Paladins need a win so that they can draw a higher seeded team in next week’s crossover game.

-- That is why First Presbyterian Day’s match up on Friday with Twiggs County (4-4) is huge for the Vikings. A win gives them second place in Division A of Region 7 and a crossover game against either Lincoln County (8-0) or Aquinas (7-1) next week. A loss drops them into third place, which will mean a crossover opponent with no more than four wins.

Class A Public

Worst Record In:  No. 12 Twiggs County, No. 14 Telfair County, No. 15 Johnson County (4-4)

Best Record Out: No. 19 Treutlen , No. 21 Hawkinsville (5-4)

First Team Out:   No. 17 Terrell County (4-4)

Who Dropped Out: No. 19 Treutlen (5-4)

Who Jumped In: No. 16 Randolph-Clay (5-3)

Noteworthy

-- Region 2 is the clear king of the hill right now with five teams in the top 16. Region 7 has three, Regions 3, 4 and 6 have two apiece and Region 1 and 8 each have one.

-- Randolph-Clay and Treutlen are battling to break long post season draughts. Randolph-Clay’s last appearance in the state playoffs was 2005, while Treutlen’s last appearance was 2009.
