Jake Fromm is one of the nation's 10 best quarterback prospects nationally among juniors, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He's also one of the state's 10 best Player of the Year candidates again after passing for 384 yards last week in a victory over Northside of Warner Robins. It was Houston County's first victory over Northside in 18 tries. Fromm is committed to Alabama.
Also rejoining the POY Watch is RB/CB Jamyest Williams, who rushed for 200 yards in his regular-season finale for 9-1 Archer.
1. DT Derrick Brown, Lanier:Brown's statistics have not been reported from last week from a 56-7 victory over Apalachee. In nine games, Brown had 80 total tackles, 33 for losses, 10 sacks, 23 QB hurries, 10 pass deflections, one interception returned 30 yards for a touchdown, one blocked punt and two recovered fumbles for the No. 3 team in Class AAAAA. Brown, who is uncommitted, is the consensus No. 8 recruit in the country.
2. QB Trevor Lawrence, Cartersville:Lawrence was 20-of-33 passing for 278 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-0 victory over Pickens. For the season, Lawrence is 157-of-236 (.665) for 2,610 yards and 33 touchdowns with three interceptions for a 10-0 team that is ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA. He has thrown four or more touchdowns passes in six games. Lawrence is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country among sophomores. He is uncommitted.
3. QB Jake Fromm, Houston County: Fromm was 25-of-39 passing for 384 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-13 victory over previously No. 1-ranked Northside (Warner Robins) in a game that won for Houston County its first region title. For the season, Fromm is 167-of-287 passing (.582) for 2,882 yards and 25 touchdowns with six interceptions. Houston County is ranked No. 4 in Class AAAAA. Fromm, rated the No. 9 pro-style quarterback prospect nationally among juniors, is committed to Alabama.
4. QB Chase Brice, Grayson:Brice's team was off last week. For the season, Brice is 124-of-186 (.667) for 2,059 yards and 23 touchdowns with four interceptions for a 10-0 team that is ranked No. 2 in Class AAAAAA. Brice is the consensus No. 11 pro-style quarterback prospect nationally among juniors and reportedly favors Clemson and Michigan State.
5. QB Chase Parrish, Colquitt County:Parrish was 14-of-22 passing for 168 yards and one touchdown in a 33-14 victory over Camden County in a game that decided the Region 1-AAAAAA championship. For the season, Parrish is 139-of-199 (.698) for 2,029 yards and 24 touchdowns with three interceptions. Parrish is 25-0 as a starting quarterback and has thrown at least one TD pass in all 25 games. Colquitt County is 10-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAAA.
6. RB/DB Colby Wood, Jefferson:Wood rushed for 254 yards and four touchdowns on 39 carries in a 43-27 victory over Hart County. For the season, Wood has rushed for 1,965 yards and 40 touchdowns on 286 carries (6.9 ypc) and has caught 13 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown. He has intercepted two passes, forced one fumble and made 27 tackles, three behind the line of scrimmage. Jefferson (9-1) is ranked No. 5 in AAA.
7. RB/WR/DB Lorenzo Smothers, Marion County: Smothers rushed for 109 yards on nine carries - his third consecutive game with more than 100 yards on fewer than 10 attempts - in a 55-0 victory over Central of Talbotton. Smothers caught two passes for 55 yards and returned a punt 49 yards. On the season, Smothers has 1,032 rushing yards and 2,001 all-purpose yards. He has 33 tackles and four interceptions on defense. He has scored 26 touchdowns - 13 rushing, eight receiving and five returning kickoffs, punts and interceptions. Marion County is 9-1 and ranked No. 3 in Class A, the highest among public schools.
8. QB Kaelan Riley, Calhoun:Riley was 8-of-12 passing for 205 yards while playing less than one half in a 55-7 victory over Coahulla Creek. On the season, Riley is 99-of-148 passing for 1,730 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has rushed for 443 yards and seven touchdowns on 70 carries. Calhoun is 9-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class AAA. Riley is committed to Mercer.
9. RB/DB Taylor Trammell, Mount Paran Christian:Trammell rushed for 244 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries but left with an injury in the fourth quarter of a 28-21 loss to Pinecrest Academy. For the season, Trammell has rushed for 2,190 yards on 216 carries (10.1 ypc), scored 32 touchdowns and intercepted three passes. Mount Paran (9-1) is ranked No. 9 in Class A. Trammell is committed to Georgia Tech as a baseball player.
10. RB/CB Jamyest Williams, Archer: Jamyest Williams rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns, one a 98-yard run, on 15 carries in a 37-7 victory over Brookwood. For the season, Williams has rushed for 1,158 yards and 21 touchdowns on 157 carries. On defense, Williams has 16 solo tackles, six assists, two interceptions and seven passes broken up. Williams, projected as a cornerback or wide receiver in college, is rated the No. 63 prospect nationally among juniors.
