The Class A-Private and Class A-Public power rankings were finalized Wednesday as the 16-team brackets await Friday and Saturday’s first-round action. The St. Francis boys and girls took the No. 1 seed in A-Private and the Taylor County girls and Calhoun County boys took Class A-Public’s top seeds.
In the two years that Class A has used power rankings to seed the playoffs, only one of the four boys’ state champions was a No. 1 seed and the same can be said for the girls. Last season, Wilkinson County repeated as the boys Class A-Public state champion as a No. 4 seed and the St. Francis boys captured its first state titles as a No. 3. Southwest Atlanta Christian won the girls Class A-Private title last season as a No. 5 seed and in 2013 No. 6 Gordon Lee captured the A-Public state title.
