Taylor County, a middle Georgia school better known for its 14 state championships in basketball, won its seventh football game of the season on Friday, the most since 2002.
Now, the Vikings are ranked the first time since ’02, checking in at No. 10 in the Class A public division following a 28-14 victory over Dooly County. Room was made when No. 7 Lincoln County was upset by Greene County.
Taylor County is one of only two new teams in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution rankings with just two weeks left in the regular season. The other is Stephens County (7-1) in AAAA. Stephens replaced No. 9 Ridgeland, which lost to Pickens 35-34.
