Grayson and Roswell each won Class AAAAAAA region-title games last week, but Grayson looked a little better doing it in a 45-3 victory over South Gwinnett in Region 8.

So the Rams jumped Roswell, a 20-14 winner over Cherokee in Region 4, as the No. 1 team entering the state playoffs.

Grayson is 9-1, its only loss a 26-7 decision in the opener to Florida’s IMG Academy, a boarding school that attracts many major college prospects. IMG is ranked in the top three of every national poll. Grayson was Georgia’s preseason No. 1 team.

Roswell is 10-0 but less dominant in recent weeks. The Hornets squeaked by unranked Etowah 17-14 last month. Grayson out-scored its region opponents 257-9.

Valdosta (9-1) maintained its No. 1 ranking in AAAAAA with a 28-24 victory over Houston County, which led 21-7 at halftime. Houston County (7-3) remained ranked, at No. 10, despite missing the playoffs in a region that has three other ranked teams.

Eagle’s Landing Christian solidified its No. 1 ranking in the Class A private division with a 49-0 victory over No. 2 Landmark Christian. The game was scoreless at halftime. Landmark fell to No. 6 behind five undefeated teams.

Among new teams in the rankings, Greene County is most interesting. The Tigers defeated No. 6 Twiggs County in a Region 7-A game and moved into the rankings for the first time since 2007 at No. 9.
