Point production continues to be up throughout Class AAAAA.

Six of the eight ranked teams that played on Friday night scored at least 35 points. Buford was one of them and needed every point it could muster.

The No. 1-ranked Wolves (2-1) survived a scare on Friday. The Wolves had a 24-point lead in the fourth quarter but stacked a few mistakes together and had to hang on for a 38-30 win over Jeff Davis High from Montgomery, Ala.

Buford had a 31-7 lead after Bernardo Burgos kicked a 23-yard field field goal with 11:08 remaining.  Then Jeff Davis used its speed to score a pair of quick touchdowns. The two teams matched ensuing touchdowns and Buford put it away by securing an onside kick with 29 seconds left.

Buford quarterback Mic Roof had an excellent game, completing 9 of 16 passes for 172 yards and rushing for 81 yards. The senior ran for touchdowns of 1 and 18 yards and connected with Anthony Grant for a 43-yard touchdown and with Jamaal Singleton for a 31-yard touchdown.

Grant, who rushed for 115 yards, added a 41-yard touchdown.

Others who scored big on Friday were:

Woodland (Stockbridge): The Wolfpack improved to 4-1 by blistering No. 6 Jones County 38-9. Kareem Rogers ran for a pair of touchdowns to help Woodland snap Jones County's 12-game home winning streak at Greyhound Stadium. Woodland had a pair of interceptions to set up early scores and dominated the game on the ground.

No. 2 Stockbridge: The Tigers (4-0) hammered Ola 38-0 for its third straight win over its Henry County rival. Brandon Jackson ran for touchdowns of 24 and 8 yards and quarterback Kenderick Duncan threw a 17-yard TD to Isaiah Taylor and a 20-yarder to Jordan Brown. Jalen Holston scored on a 15-yard run.

No. 3 Carrollton: The Trojans showed no rust after an off week and improved to 3-0 by hammering East Paulding 45-7.

No. 4 Thomas County Central: The Yellow Jackets (4-1) got into another slugfest with Valdosta, but lost it 56-39. (Last year Valdosta won 59-35.) TCC scored with 5:35 to make it a 42-39 game before Valdosta put the game away.  Thomas County quarterback Kelias Williams ran 25 times for 231 yards and threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns, but had a costly fumble that was returned 70 yards by Valdosta for a score. The Yellow Jackets had 503 total yards, with Tyrice Cloud adding 73 yards and one touchdown.

No. 10 Grady: The Grey Knights went to Lithia Springs and put a 74-14 whooping on the Lions. The point total is just short of a school record; Grady beat North Springs 76-6 in 2010.

No. 7 Ware County was thumped by Class AAAAAA Northside Warner Robins 42-7. No. 8 Arabia Mountain and No. 9 Rome did not play.
