Parkview and versatile senior Malik Washington removed all the drama from its annual rivalry game with Brookwood early.

There would be no late field goal, no overtime win – as Brookwood produced the last two years. This one was all Parkview, which rolled into Brookwood Community Stadium and came away with a 31-2 win.

The victory means that No. 4 Parkview (8-0) will likely be the champion in Region 7-AAAAAAA. The Broncos (6-2) saw their six-game winning streak broken.

“I knew we would come in here and do what we had to do,” said Washington, a senior who played wide receiver and quarterback on Friday.

Washington played quarterback most of the second half when starter Jordan Williams left the game with an AC joint injury and did not return for precautionary measures. Washington ran for 104 yards and three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 20, 1 and 9 yards.

“Any time (Washington) touches the ball great things can happen,” Parkview coach Eric Godfree said.

Parkview struck early, scoring touchdowns on two of its first three plays and its first three possessions.

The Panthers struck for a 62-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Williams to Elijah James on the second play. The Panthers got their second score one play after Brookwood tried a fake punt at its own 19. Parkview’s Malik Washington, who had lined up in the wildcat formation, took it himself for a 20-yard touchdown run. That made it 14-0 with 7:58 left in the first quarter.

“The energy way came out to start the game, tremendous fans and student section, I attribute them a lot for the energy,” Parkview coach Eric Godfree said.

Parkview’s third touchdown came the hard way. The Panthers drove 57 yards in 10 plays and scored on Washington’s 1-yard keeper. The Panthers added a 24-yard field goal from Nolan McCord and led 24-0 at halftime.

Parkview scored once in the second half on a long drive that culminated in Washington’s 9-yard run.

Brookwood’s points came on a late safety when Parkview fumbled and recovered it in the end zone in the final minute.

“We made too many mistakes there in the beginning and credit to them they’ve got a good football team,” Brookwood coach Philip Jones said.

The Parkview defense was dominant, with Kobe Wilson and Bryce Wilson getting sacks. Brookwood wasn’t helped by a series of injuries to its offensive line.

Brookwood now leads the series 22-15.
