GHSF Daily's Chip Saye ranks the most surprising and notable games of the weekend:

1. Jones County 45, Northside (Warner Robins) 37: Jones County knocked Northside out of the No. 1 spot in the Class AAAAA rankings with its first victory in six all-time meetings with the Eagles. Jones County, 4-0 for the first time since 1999, became the first team other than Warner Robins to beat Northside in the regular season since Lowndes in 2008.

2. Roswell 33, Milton 31: Roswell (3-1, 2-0) knocked off an undefeated team for the second consecutive week - Walton was the first victim - and moved into a tie for first place with Etowah and Woodstock in Region 5-AAAAAA. Milton had climbed to No. 6 in the Class AAAAAA rankings after beating two-time defending champion Norcross in its previous game.

3. Winder-Barrow 46, Loganville 7: Winder-Barrow (2-2, 2-1), which hasn't made a playoff appearance since 2003, is in fourth place in Region 8-AAAAA after knocking off previously unbeaten Loganville. The Bulldoggs are in their first season under former Peachtree Ridge quarterbacks coach Heath Webb, who started the North Paulding program in 2008.

4. Heritage (Conyers) 35, Flowery Branch 16: Flowery Branch, which has finished first or second in 8-AAAAA for four consecutive seasons, fell to 0-2 in the region after losing to Heritage, which lost its first three games by a combined 14 points. Flowery Branch hasn't lost more than two region games in one year since 2004, which was its third varsity season.

5. Salem 19, Clarke Central 17: The craziness in Region 8-AAAAA continued in Athens, where Salem kicked a 21-yard field goal with 1:24 remaining to beat Clarke Central for the first time since 2004. Salem, which hasn't been to the playoffs since 2007, is tied for first place in the region at 3-0 (3-1 overall). Clarke Central fell to 1-2 in the region and 1-3 overall.

6. Houston County 62, Warner Robins 30: Houston County was considered a six-point underdog by the computer Maxwell Ratings despite holding the higher ranking (No. 10 in the GHSF Daily poll) and beating the Demons last season. The Bears' 62 points were the most allowed in a game by Warner Robins since a 67-13 loss to Macon's Lanier in 1966.

7. Washington-Wilkes 21, Thomson 18: This just goes to show that you can't compare scores. Washington-Wilkes fell from No. 2 all the way out of the Class AA rankings after losing to Jefferson County 14-7 in its previous game. That same Jefferson County team lost to Thomson 26-13 on Aug. 22. Washington-Wilkes had lost six straight against Thomson.

8. Aquinas 28, Stratford Academy 27: Aquinas of Class A almost became the second No. 1-ranked team to lose last week but scored a touchdown with 10 seconds remaining to extend its winning streak to 18 games. Aquinas was projected as a 20-point favorite by the Maxwell Ratings. Stratford is 1-2 after going 10-3 in the GISA last season.

9. Bleckley County 28, Dublin 21: Bleckley County picked up its first victory in four games this season and first in 11 all-time meetings with Dublin, which was No. 10 in AA last week. Bleckley County's record might be a bit deceptive, however, because the Royals' first three opponents - Dodge County, Hawkinsville and West Laurens - are a combined 10-2.

10. Claxton 29, Emanuel County Institute 23: Emanuel County Institute made its 2014 debut in the Class A rankings at No. 10 last week, but its stay was a short one. Claxton (2-1) handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season and beat them for the second consecutive time after losing the previous seven meetings. The teams split two games last season.
