GHSF Daily's Chip Saye ranks the most surprising and notable games of the weekend:

1. Therrell 25, Westminster 23: This was one of the biggest shockers of the season. Westminster had won 15 consecutive games against Atlanta Public Schools teams and was projected as a 33-point favorite by the computer Maxwell Ratings. Westminster's last previous loss to an APS school came in 2002, also against Therrell (25-19).

2. Turner County 44, Charlton County 0: Turner County improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2000 by beating Charlton County for just the third time in 10 all-time meetings. Turner County had been held to 16 points or less in eight of the previous nine matchups. Turner County, one of two remaining unbeaten teams in 2-A play, was an 11-point underdog.

3. Cambridge 21, Kell 7: Kell's 20-game subregion winning streak ended in a game in which it was a 19-point favorite, according to Maxwell. Kell is the defending 7-AAAAA champion. It was the subregion opener for fourth-year Cambridge, one of three undefeated teams in Division B. Riverwood and Sprayberry are 2-0 in subregion play and will meet this week.

4. Jefferson County 44, Screven County 20: Jefferson County opened the year with two losses to higher-classification teams and then two two-touchdown victories over winless teams, so this was easily its best win of the season. Screven County suffered its first loss and fell out of the rankings after holding the No. 9 spot in Class AA last week.

5. Paulding County 38, Villa Rica 35: Paulding County is quietly putting together a solid season as it seeks its first playoff berth since 2007. Paulding is in the thick of the race in 5-AAAAA, one of five teams with one region loss behind undefeated Alexander. The Patriots, who face East Paulding this week, are 3-1 overall, their best record in 12 years.

Also of note: Brookwood has rebounded from an 0-3 start, beating South Gwinnett 23-12 for its second consecutive victory and snapping a three-game losing streak in the series. The Broncos are 2-1 in region play, good for fourth place in 8-AAAAAA. ... A week after knocking off preseason 7-AAAAA Div. A favorite Dalton, Cass fell into a tie for third place with a 21-14 loss to Creekview, which is alone in first place at 2-0 in subregion play. ... Metter is 4-1 and off to its best start since 2003 after a 17-14 victory over Dublin, which was ranked No. 7 in Class AA last week. Metter finished with a winning record just once in the past 11 years. ... North Gwinnett is 0-2 in region play and 2-3 overall after a 28-0 loss to fifth-ranked Mill Creek. North Gwinnett hasn't lost two region games or three regular-season games in a season since 2005. ... Twiggs County picked up its first victory of the season, beating Hancock Central 24-6 to end a four-game losing streak in the series and avenge a 14-6 loss in 2014. It was Twiggs' ninth win since the start of the 2010 season.
