The North Atlanta golf teams made history this week. The girls won the first region title in school history and the boys won the region and qualified for the state tournament for the first time.

The North Atlanta girls were led by Helen Fialkowski, Elizabeth Ray, Lily Vitgel and Maggie Richardson but will have to survive a trip to sectionals to reach the state tournament.
The boys won Region 6-AAAAA with a 321 to best Dunwoody and avoid a trip to sectionals. Taylor Walstrum shot 78, with Turner Hume and Winston Meshad each shooting 79. Jackson Perkins, Michael Maxey and Nathan Katica also contributed.
Girls tennis: Freshman gives Dunwoody clutch win
Dunwoody needed a win from freshman Paige Borcherding at No. 3 singles for its 3-2 first-round win over Clarke Central. Borcherding won the last two games for a 6-4 win. The Wildcats won both doubles matches behind the teams of Allie Pruett and Claire Gordon and Megan Gordon and Audrey Benson. …

Chamblee’s Gabby Robinson and Hannah Rosen sparked the Bulldogs to a 4-0 win over Madison County. The doubles teams of Claire Jirsavijinda and Sarah Magee and Emma Anderson and Kendalle Smith were simultaneous winners to clinch the match. …
Defending Class AAAAAA champion Walton improved to 14-0 with a 3-0 win over Norcross. Bella Kuse, Suzanne Zenoni won in singles and Katie Riley and Jessica Cramer won in doubles for the Raiders. … Allatoona sneaked past Kell 3-2 in the first round. Kennedy Craig, Allison Whitley and the doubles team of Lindsey Stowell and Corrie Williams all won. … Hilgrove lost only four games en route to a 5-0 victory over Alcovy in the first round. ...
Boys tennis: Athens Academy with 28th straight
Athens Academy won its 28th consecutive region or area championship by defeating Hebron Christian 3-0 for the Class A Private Area 2 title. Danny Sullivan and Rob Clements won singles matches and Rolf Reynolds and Hayden Lanzilotta won at doubles. The last time the Spartans failed to win was 1986, when they were second. ...
Defending Class AAAAAA champion Brookwood advanced past the second round with an easy 3-0 win over Walton. Brandon Mills and Will George won at singles, as did the doubles team of David Brown and Will McWhirt. …
Lakeside, Chamblee and Dunwoody will represent DeKalb County in the second round of the state tournament. Chamblee defeated Stephens County 4-1, with Kunal Goel and Logan Simpson winning at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Dunwoody beat Clarke Central 4-0. Lakeside scored a 4-1 road win against Gainesville, as Matthew Riley rallied from losing the first set and won the deciding set on a tiebreaker at No. 2 singles. …
North Cobb blanked Newton 3-0 in the first round, winning all three matches without losing a game. Winning for the Warriors were Rohman Mitchell and Richard Johnson in singles and Preston Lahmann and Jake Tuchman in doubles. … Bennett Shilling and Justin Samples both won close singles matches to help Whitefield Academy to a 3-0 win over Darlington.
Boys golf: 17 straight region for Harrison
Harrison won its 17th straight region title, taking the Region 4-AAAAAA championship at Brookstone Country Club. Chad Barfield shot 71 to lead the Hoyas, who also counted a 76 from Sam Maryland, a 77 from Nick Bell and a 78 from Luke Schneiderjans. Jonathan Keppler of Kennesaw Mountain, who won state as a freshman, was medalist with a 4-under 68.
Grayson, led by Michael Clay’s 74, won the Region 8-AAAAAA championship at Summit Chase for the fifth straight year. The Rams shot a school-record 302 with Alex Quinn, Dylan Heaser and Conner Dickinson all finishing among the top ten. Dacula’s Hunter Fry birdied the final hole to shoot 72 and win medalist honors by one shot over Shawn Chong of Brookwood, which finished second. …
Walker won the Class A Private Area 4 tournament, with Barrett Kulik shooting 73 and Joe Reich adding 75. They edged Mt. Paran by three shots, despite a 76 from Tyler Young. Jon Erik Alford of Mt. Pisgah was medalist with a 72.
Girls golf: Lambert sets school record in winning region
Lambert set a school record with a 216 in winning the Region 6-AAAAAA championship for the fifth straight year. Sophomore Kayley Marschke posted a school-record 67 and was medalist. Michaela Owen (73), Lauren Lightfritz (76) and Christine McDonnell (82) rounded out the scoring.

Hanna Grevelius shot a 72 and Hanna Mae Deems shot 75 to give Darlington the Class A Private Area 4 championship. Mt. Pisgah got an 83 from Sarah Austin and Whitefield Academy had a 79 from Madison Barnett and both advance to the girls regional qualifier. … Etowah, led by Tyler Dawson’s 78, won the Region 5-AAAAAA tournament at Woodmont, but Abby Williams of Walton was medalist with a 76. … White County won the Region 7-AAA tournament at Royal Lakes, with Buford finishing second.
