Mays overpowered Region 6-AAAAA foe M.L. King 34-0 on Friday night in the region opener for both teams.

Behind a massive offensive line that welcomed back Dallas Warmack, who committed to Alabama, from a toe injury, the Raiders needed only 42 yards of offense to go up 13-0 within the first five minutes. Set up by a punt that landed out of bounds at the King 28, Charlie Patrick's 5-yard run put Mays ahead 7-0 less than two minutes in.

A 43-yard punt return from Randercous Davis on the next possession preceded another Patrick score from seven yards out. Mays added a third score in the first period when Romartis Bell (eight carries, 65 yards) scored on a 37-yard run. Patrick finished with 47 yards on seven runs.

The Mays defense stopped a deep King drive early in the second quarter that featured a 41-yard run from running back Robert Pritchett III. Pritchett (21 rushes, 91 yards) gave the Lions first-and-goal at the 4, but his next three runs netted one yard. On fourth down, Mays tipped a Jordan Douglas pass and forced a turnover on downs.

Monquavion Brinson's 55-yard interception return of Douglas' first pass attempt of the second half and a 90-yard catch and run by Deparis Carter forced a running clock in the final quarter.

Raiders coach Corey Jarvis returned to Hallford Stadium in Clarkston to face the team where he won 50 games in five years to start his career. Jarvis, who also spent three years at Duluth, is now 2-0 against his old squad, having won last year's matchup 36-28 at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta.

Mays (2-1, 1-0 in Region 6-AAAAA) lost its season opener to Class AAAAAA Langston Hughes on Aug. 23 and shut out Glenn Hills of Augusta last week. King (0-2, 0-1) was held out in consecutive games for the first time in school history, as Florida power Norland beat the Lions 30-0 last week.
