Mary Persons coach Brian Nelson will discipline five players, including star running back Dee High, because of a Facebook video showing Mary Persons players setting fire to a hoodie with a Lamar County logo, according to the Macon Telegraph.
The five players will not play in Friday's game against Lamar County, according Walter Geiger of The Herald-Gazette in Barnesville, citing the Monroe County Reporter in Forsyth. The Herald-Gazette story includes a photo of the incident.
The video, which lasted 2 minutes, 20 seconds, also shows the players using profanity.
“We’ve got some kids that aren’t meeting our expectations,” Nelson told the Telegraph. “And they’ve got some consequences.”
Nelson was not immediately available by cell phone Thursday morning.
Mary Persons and Lamar County are Middle Georgia schools that have not played each other since 2009. Mary Persons is a Class AAAA school. Lamar County is AA.
