Marietta hired Richard Morgan, who won two state championships in Virginia, as head football coach on Wednesday.

Morgan’s record in 14 seasons at Oscar Smith High in Chesapeake, Va., is 164-20. His teams won state championships in 2008 and 2011 and finished 13-1 last season, losing in the Group 6A state championship game to Westfield in three overtimes, according to The Virginian-Pilot.

Several of Morgan’s Oscar Smith players have played at major-college programs including five-star defensive lineman Josh Sweat, who played as a freshman at Florida State last fall. Oscar Smith played on ESPN-televised games four times under Morgan.

Marietta has won only two playoff games the past 10 seasons. Former coach Scott Burton was 31-34 over six seasons.
