Below are the 10 teams in each classification with the best chances of winning a state title and their odds, according to the computer Maxwell Ratings. For example, Blessed Trinity's odds of winning Class AAAA is 6-to-1. The odds are affected by each team's strength determined by its scores this season and also by the difficulty of each team's playoff draw. Athens Academy and Eagle's Landing Christian, finalists the past two seasons in Class A private, are projected to meet in the quarterfinals this season, which hurts their chances. So are Peach County and Cedar Grove. What might be perceived as unrealistically long odds - is Marietta really a 50-to-1 shot? - also might be attributable to limited inter-region play that occurs in any regular season, causing some teams to be underrated or overrated. Maxwell's ratings also don't consider out-of-state opponents. They will become more accurate with each round of the playoffs, which provides rich data on the strength of regions.
