Here’s a recap of some of the big stories in Class AAAAA from Week 7:

- Lakeside-Evans knocked off an unbeaten and ranked team for the second consecutive week, getting three touchdown runs from quarterback Nick Patterson to upset No. 4 Jones County 35-16. Jones County was the only remaining unbeaten team in Region 2-AAAAA, and the loss puts the Greyhounds in a virtual four-way tie for first place with Warner Robins, Northside-Warner Robins and Houston County, which lost to Lakeside last weekend. Lakeside and Evans are close behind the leaders at 3-2 in the region. Jones County quarterback Bradley Hunnicutt suffered a leg injury in the third quarter and had to be taken off the field in an ambulance, according to a repot by Score Atlanta. Hunnicutt passed for 1,204 yards in the Greyhounds’ first five games.

- It wasn’t the kind of game one might have expected from two teams averaging a combined 65 points per game, but second-ranked Creekside established itself as the favorite in 6-AAAAA Division B with a 13-7 victory against No. 6 Mays. Bricen Terry rushed for 176 yards to lead Creekside, which scored its fewest points in a game since a 17-7 loss to Whitewater in 2012. Creekside (5-1, 1-0) can all but wrap up the title in the five-team subregion with a win against Carver-Atlanta (5-1, 1-0) on Friday at Lakewood Stadium.

- Allatoona took a big step toward winning the second region title in the program’s seven-year history with a 62-21 victory over Alexander that left the Buccaneers as the only remaining undefeated team in 5-AAAAA. Allatoona is 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the region, a game and a half ahead of second-place teams Alexander, Hiram and South Paulding (all are 3-1 in the region). Allatoona beat South Paulding 33-13 last weekend and plays at Hiram on Oct. 17. Alexander reached the AAAA quarterfinals in 2013.

- The surprise team in 8-AAAAA continues to be Winder-Barrow, which maintained its hold on fourth place with a 24-7 victory against perennial playoff team Flowery Branch. Winder-Barrow is 3-3 overall (3-2 in the subregion) and has more than two wins for the first time since going 5-5 in 2007. Flowery Branch, which has reached the postseason every season since it joined the region in 2010, fell to eighth place. The Falcons (2-3, 1-3) won all four of the previous meetings, outscoring the Bulldoggs 190-28.

- It rarely works out this way, but the six teams in 4-AAAAA Division B are tied for first place at 1-1 after two weeks of subregion play. The most surprising game on Friday that created the logjam was Union Grove’s 24-14 victory against Luella, which was projected as a 17-point favorite by the computer Maxwell Ratings. Stockbridge beat Dutchtown and Woodland-Stockbridge knocked off Ola in the other subregion games. All six teams will take next week off to prepare for the stretch drive leading up to the region play-in games.
