Lacrosse in brief: Week 6

Each week, we’ll take a look at four of the state’s top teams — two from the boys’ side, two from the girls’ — and see how they’re doing at this point in the season.

Roswell Hornets(12-1)

Upcoming matches: at Cambridge (5-8) on Saturday; vs. Riverside Military (0-15) on Tuesday; at A-5A’s No. 3 Blessed Trinity (12-5) on Thursday

Notes: The Hornets have surged to No. 2 in the 6A-7A rankings thanks to a nine-game win streak that includes back-to-back wins over No. 3 Lassiter (11-9; 11-9,)No. 7 Milton (11-10), No. 9 Johns Creek (10-8) and A-5A’s No. 2 Lovett (12-7). Their only loss was their fourth match of the season, 10-9, to No. 4 Centennial. Their three upcoming matchups are their final of the regular season.

Fellowship Christian Paladins (13-3)

Upcoming matches: N/A

Notes: According to their schedule found on MaxPreps, A-5A’s No. 4 Paladins completed their regular season schedule on Thursday with a 15-5 loss to No. 3 Blessed Trinity. Their only other losses to were to Cambridge (14-13 OT) and McCallie (13-5) of Chattanooga, the No. 2 team in Tennessee. Notable wins include No. 5 Pace Academy (12-11 OT), No. 7 Marist (19-10). The A-5A tournament begins May 1.

Johns Creek Lady Gladiators (13-2)

Upcoming matches: at No. 9 Centennial (11-3) on Tuesday; vs. St. Pius (6-9) on Wednesday

Notes: The Lady Gladiators are No. 3 in 6A-7A, led by Avery Mcilwaine (51 goals, 21 assists), Casey Davis (33 goals, 12 assists), Sandy Salit (31 goals, 27 assists), Katie Colavito (27 goals, 18 assists), Ava Trankina (26 goals) and Emily Cassidy (18 goals, 17 assists). Notable wins include No. 7 West Forsyth (15-8), No. 8 Cambridge (16-10), No. 10 Chattahoochee (16-7) and A-5A’s No. 2 Blessed Trinity (10-9) and No. 5 Wesleyan (23-7). Their only two losses were to No. 4 Alpharetta (12-9) and A-5A’s No. 1 Blessed Trinity (15-12). Their match against St. Pius on Wednesday is their regular season finale.

Fellowship Christian Lady Paladins (12-1)

Upcoming matches: vs. Walker (8-4) on Thursday; vs. A-5A’s No. 7 Westminster (8-5)

Notes: The Lady Paladins are No. 3 in A-5A, led by Brooke Beard (70 goals, 26 assists), Lexi Menna (45 goals), Shelby Stock (28 goals, 13 assists) and Camille Stroud (22 goals, 18 assists). They’re 1-1 against ranked teams, beating No.8 GAC 19-5 and losing 19-4 to top-ranked Blessed Trinity. Their game against Westminster is their regular season finale.
