There’s a new order in Gwinnett County girls basketball this week as Archer, a 4-year-old school outside of Lawrenceville, is No. 2 in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Class AAAAAA rankings.

Archer (15-1) and Parkview, the former No. 2 team, swapped places after Archer’s 51-42 victory last week in a critical Region 8 game. Archer has made the state playoffs the past two years but never advanced past the round of 16 or been ranked as high as No. 2.

Meanwhile, another 4-year-old school with a Lawrenceville address, Mountain View (13-4), moved into the rankings for the first time at No. 9. The Lady Bears made the playoffs for the first time last season and lost in the first round. This weekend, they defeated Mill Creek and 2013 state runner-up North Gwinnett on consecutive days and claimed first place in Region 7-AAAAAA.

Meanwhile, Norcross, the defending state champion in the highest class, fell four spots to No. 8 after a 46-38 loss to Duluth. Norcross had beaten Duluth 13 straight times.

The No. 1 teams for boys and girls remained the same in all six classifications, and there are only 13 new teams in the rankings in a week of relative calm.

Newly ranked boys teams are Milton for Marietta in AAAAAA, Warner Robins and Sprayberry for Apalachee and M.L. King in AAAAA, Alexander for Westover in AAAA and Pelham and Crawford County for McIntosh County Academy and Taylor County in AA

Newly ranked girls teams are Mountain View for Hughes in AAAAAA; Grovetown for Evans in AAAAA, Morgan County, Chapel Hill and Peach County for Southwest-Macon, Central-Carrollton and North Oconee in AAA, Armuchee and Westside-Augusta for Calhoun and Taylor County in AA  and Calvary Day for Eagle’s Landing Christian in A.

Won-lost records may not include games not reported before deadline.
