Three coordinators from Gwinnett County football programs cashed those credentials into head-coaching positions in the past week.

Josh Alexander, the offensive coordinator at Class AAAAAA runner-up Archer, was hired to lead Athens Academy, a Class A school.

Alexander has been on Archer’s staff since the school opened in 2009. Alexander also has coached at Parkview, Washington-Wilkes and Clarke Central. He lives in Athens.

North Gwinnett defensive coordinator Robert Andrews is the new head coach at Bowdon, replacing retired 300-game winner Dwight Hochstetler.

Andrews has been North’s defensive coordinator the past two seasons, including North’s Region 7-AAAAAA championship team in 2014. He held the same post with Grayson from 2005 to 2012 and was part of Grayson’s 2011 Class AAAAA championship team that featured All-America defensive end Robert Nkemdiche.

Mountain View defensive coordinator Nich Bach is the choice at Dunwoody to replace Jim Showfety. Bach came to Mountain View after 10 seasons on college sidelines. His was an assistant at the University of Buffalo, East Stroudsburg, Otterbein and Johns Hopkins.

There have been other coaching moves in the past week.

-East Paulding will hire Cook head coach Jon Lindsey, according to South Georgia Football. Lindsey nor the school would not confirm the hiring. There is a school board meeting set for Thursday. Lindsey is a graduate of Paulding County High. He would replace Chuck Goddard.

-Taylor County’s Chris Kirksey has resigned. He was 50-62-1 in 11 seasons.

-Shaw has promoted defensive coordinator Chuck Stamey to replace Kyle Adkins.

-Pepperell coach Jeff Shiflett has resigned for family reasons. He was 56-35 in eight seasons, including an 11-2 finish in 2008.

-Ridgeland will hire Gilmer head coach Wesley Tankersley to replace Mark Mariakis. Tankersley was 43-34 at Gilmer despite an 0-10 first season.

-Therrell coach Dominic Callaway has resigned. He was 5-15 in two seasons at a school that has not had a winning record since 2002.

-River Ridge will promote offensive coordinator Tyler Wynn, according to the Cherokee Tribune. He would replace Robert Braucht, who started the program in 2009.

New Gwinnett school hires AD

The next high school in Gwinnett County has a name and an athletics director. The school that will open this fall and take students from Central Gwinnett and Berkmar high schools will be called Discovery. The school hired Brent Tisdale, an assistant principal at North Gwinnett, as its first athletics director. Tisdale had been an AD at Grayson before going to North Gwinnett in 2013. He is a graduate of Central Gwinnett. The school has not selected a mascot or school colors. The school is being built on Old Norcross Road in Lawrenceville.

GHSA investigates Westover basketball

Westover’s boys basketball program is being investigated by the Georgia High School Association for allegations that two players are not academically ineligible and that two players do not live in the Westover school district. The complaints, lodged by other schools and first reported by the Albany Herald, also allege grade fixing and falsified documents. Westover is 15-6 overall, 9-2 in Region 1-AAAA and ranked No. 7 in Class AAAA.

Former Marist baseball coach dies

A service remembering the life of former Marist baseball coach Jerry Queen will be held Sunday at Marist School at Centennial Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Queen died last week in LaFayette, La. Queen’s teams won five state titles between 1970 and 1989 and compiled a record of 350-125. Marist’s baseball field is named in his honor. He was inducted into the Atlanta Dugout Club Hall of Fame in 2006. Queen was 71.
