Jerry Baskin, who has coached numerous high-profile players from Georgia, was honored as a Team USA Coaching Legend at the inaugural Team USA Coaching Awards.

His students include U.S. Open semifinalist Robby Ginepri of Wheeler, Bobby Reynolds of Harrison and Brian Vahaly of Lovett..

Baskin is regarded as one of the best junior development coaches in the country over the last 40 years. He was the 2002 U.S. Olympic Committee Tennis Coach of the Year and a 2004 inductee into the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame. He has helped more than 300 players earn college scholarships.

Baskin was joined by fellow legends Nick Bollettieri, Robert Lansdorp and Jack Sharpe for their work in developing young players.

Girls tennis: Mount Pisgah has been helped by the return of seniors Aryn Greene and Samantha Russell. They returned to play for their high school team after sitting out their junior season to concentrate on the junior circuit. Greene, an Alabama signee, has not lost a high-school match. Russell has signed with Wofford. … Eagle's Landing has won its fourth consecutive region championship. The Golden Eagles (17-4) are led by senior Colby Rose and sophomore Jessica Storr. Earlier this year the girls finished fourth in the Peachtree City Invitational. … Roswell has lost only once this season, that coming to defending state champion Walton. Among the accomplishments for the Hornets this season was a first-place finish in the Peachtree City Tournament.

Boys golf: Colquitt wins Indian Invitational

Colquitt County won the Indian Invitational at Hawk’s

Point in Vidalia. The Packers shot a 594 to win by five shots over Hilton Head Christian. Westminster finished third with 608, with Lovett taking sixth, Athens Academy placing eighth.

Colquitt County’s Eli Stripling, who has committed to Thomas University, was the medalist with an 8-under 136, including a final-round 66. Stripling missed only one green the last day. North Oconee’s David Mackey was second with a 139 and Kyle Mueller of Athens Academy finished fourth at 141

Girls golf: Vidalia victorious

The Vidalia girls won the Lady Bear Invitational in Blackshear. Katie Dalton shot 35 and Layne Carter and Jesse Dalton each had 43s for the Indians. Ware County was second and Glynn Academy placed third.
