The Greater Atlanta Christian School girls soccer team, the defending Class AA champion and current No. 1-ranked team, came through one of its toughest stretches of the season with a 2-0-1 record last week.

Now the Spartans need to clear one more big hurdle before they can take control of rugged Region 6-AA, which put four teams in the semifinals last season. On Friday night, GAC (3-0 in the region) will host third-ranked Wesleyan, which played its first region game on Wednesday against Pace Academy.

GAC beat fourth-ranked Pace 6-0 and No. 2 Lovett 1-0 last week in region games and tied SINE Sports School of Denmark 5-5. Regan Glisson scored five goals during the three-game stretch.

“GACS always has a strong team and is always our biggest competition, and we lost to them the last two seasons in the final four,” Wesleyan coach Lacy Gilbert said. “We go into that game each year knowing that we’ve got to come ready to play because they have a talented squad with depth and a tradition of winning. We are excited to face them again this season and look forward to a competitive matchup.”

Wesleyan is led by TJ Anderson, who has eight goals, and Ellie Hall, who has four goals and six assists.
