GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Kyle Hockman, McEachern
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "I'd say my first college start [1987]. I played for Bowling Green, and we played at Penn State. It was pretty amazing. We couldn't hear in the huddle it was so loud. Then coaching against Miami back in the day. I was at West Virginia, at the Orange Bowl in the regular season [1991]. It was the old Orange Bowl with the palm trees and the dolphin pool in the end zone. Then probably Hillgrove here the first time at McEachern [2011]. That's a big rivalry, and there were 12,000 people there. You could cut the tension with a knife. There were 15 D-I college players in that game. It was pretty neat." [Hockman was a three-year starter at tight end for Bowling Green and the wide receivers coach at West Virginia in 1991 and 1992. Hillgrove upset McEachern 12-10 in 2011. Both entered 5-0, and McEachern was ranked No. 1.]
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "I'd say Van Spence at Paulding County, if he's not playing for me, obviously. Van was offensive coordinator here for several years and knows him well. Van is just a really good man and one that I trust." [Hockman's son, Bailey, is McEachern's starting quarterback.]
3. What is your favorite saying/motto? "I've got thousands of those. It would probably be, 'The pursuit of improvement and performance leads to victory, but the pursuit of victory leads to deterioration of performance.'"
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "Everybody is ineligible who moves schools, no matter what. I want to get back to the old days where you're playing for your school and your community and your buddy and not some silly recruiting service."
