Joey King resigned as Cartersville’s head coach earlier this month without announcing his destination.
Now, it’s official. New Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell on Monday announced that King would be his wide receivers coach.
King, a native of Cedarstown, led Cartersville to a 67-4 record and state championships in 2015 and 2016 in five seasons as head coach. His quarterback during the state championships was Trevor Lawrence, who led Clemson to the 2018 national title.
Chadwell also added Chad Staggs, Skylor Magee and Chad Scott to his staff. Chadwell was named head coach last month.
Coastal Carolina, a member of the Sun Belt Conference along with Georgia Southern and Georgia State, finished 5-7 last season.
King is the latest of several of Georgia’s more successful head coaches to enter college football.
Others who have won state titles in recent years and taken college jobs are Buford’s Jess Simpson, now a defensive line coach at Miami; Grayson’s Mickey Conn, a secondary coach at Clemson; Carver-Columbus’s Dell McGee, an assistant head coach and running backs coach at Georgia.
