Quinn Gray, the former NFL quarterback and Florida A&M offensive coordinator who was 2-8 in his only season as head football coach at Whitefield Academy in Mableton last season, has been hired as head coach at Mandarin High in Jacksonville.

Whitefield is the ninth Class A private school that searched for a new coach this off-season. Jobs also have come open at Calvary Day, Christian Heritage, King’s Ridge Christian, North Cobb Christian, Our Lady of Mercy, Prince Avenue Christian, St. Francis and Tattnall Square. Those at St. Francis, Prince Avenue and Whitefield have not been announced.

There were only 32 private schools fielding football teams in Class A this past season.

Gray played with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2002 to 2007. Mandarin was 12-1 in 2015.

New Manchester promotes Terry to replace retiring Cleveland

New Manchester has promoted defensive coordinator Myron Terry to replace Rob Cleveland, who started the football program in 2011 and retired officially last week after 28 years on football sidelines.

New Manchester’s five-year record is 21-22.
