Thirty-six Georgia high school football games scheduled for Friday night have been canceled or postponed because of the threat of Hurricane Hermine, the Georgia High School Association announced late Thursday. More games could be affected.
Gov. Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency for 56 Georgia counties in middle and south Georgia ahead of the storm, which was upgraded to a hurricane on Thursday afternoon. The forecast is for 3 to 5 inches of rain within 24 hours beginning around 5 a.m. Friday.
Non-region games that are canceled do not have to be made up and likely won't be.
