Georgia’s high school football coaching carousel has resulted in 53 reported off-season hires and 13 more jobs that are open.
Here are a few recent hires, plus the status of the 66 openings since the 2013 season ended.
Grady has hired former NFL player and Grady alumnus Earthwind Moreland as head coach. Moreland played on a national championship team with Georgia Southern before spending seven seasons in the NFL, mostly as a reserve cornerback with teams that included the Jets, Browns and Patriots. He also played in the Arena League, the AAFL and NFL Europe. Moreland succeeds Ronnie Millen, who was forced out after Grady was found to have several players who did not legally live in the Grady district.
South Cobb has hired Geoff Pastrick, who was 11-11 in two seasons at Chapel Hill. Pastrick coached in Texas for six years before coming to Hillgrove as an assistant in 2007. He then joined McEachern’s staff, during which the team was 35-10 in Pastrick’s four seasons. Pastrick will replace Michael Youngblood, who was 3-7 in one season.
Athens Christian has promoted offensive coordinator Chris Williams to replace Steve Brooks. Williams is a former quarterback at the school. Athens Christian was 11-21 in three seasons under Brooks, the former Clarke Central head coach whose job partly was to groom a successor, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. Athens Christian improved from 2-8 to 4-7 to 5-6.
