Eagle's Landing 17, Jonesboro 7
Eagle’s Landing held No. 10 Jonesboro to a lone second quarter touchdown run and improved to 3-0 for the second consecutive season with a 17-7 victory. The Golden Eagles opened the game with the fastest seven points in school history as Antonio Gibson took the opening kickoff 92 yards for an Eagle’s Landing touchdown. The lead remained 7-0 until midway through the second quarter when Jonesboro’s Montralius Mosley’s tied it at 7-7 with a 5-yard touchdown run. The Golden Eagle’s remained aggressive offensively, but Jonesboro’s Jordan Griffin (a Kentucky commit) hauled in a pair of interceptions in the first half that kept the Cardinals’ share of the lead.
Eagle’s Landing took a 10-7 lead with 9:37 left in the fourth quarter when Logan Fridell booted through a 32-yard Eagle’s Landing field goal. Less than five minutes later, LenDerrick Craig provided the game-clinching score with a 43-yard touchdown run that pushed the lead to 17-7. The Golden Eagles outgained Jonesboro 339-to-160 in total yards and held the Cardinals to just nine rushing yards on 22 carries.
Jonesboro dropped to 3-1 and remains a win away from matching last year’s win total (4-6). The Cardinals, however, started 0-3 last year, so they had won nine of their last 10 games before tonight’s loss.
