The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in Class AAAAAA were beaten last week when Archer and McEachern went down. That is the 11th time since 1982, when the Atlanta Journal and Atlanta Constitution merged their sports departments and began publishing one football poll, that No. 1 and No. 2 have fallen during the same week. The most recent time that it happened came last season, when No. 1 Creekside lost to Hughes, and No. 2 Stephenson lost to Central of Miami. Four of the previous 10 No. 1 teams bounced back to win state titles. Those were 1982 Palmetto, 1994 Thomas County Central, 2006 Peach County and 2006 Lincoln County. None of the 10 No. 2 teams won state titles.
