Glynn Academy and Westminster are in the finals as unranked teams. That's not uncommon. At least one unranked team has made the finals each season since 2006. Winning the title as an unranked team is uncommon, however. Unranked teams are 8-32-1 in finals since 1982, when the AJC rankings replaced the separate Atlanta Journal and Atlanta Constitution polls. Here are the nine teams that won or shared state titles:

2013 Marion County

2012 Gainesville

2006 Peachtree Ridge*

1999 Lowndes

1998 Dougherty

1996 Brookwood

1994 Thomas County Central

1992 Thomas County Central

1986 Villa Rica

*Note: Peachtree Ridge and Roswell tied 14-14 in the 2006 Class AAAAA final, and both were considered state champions.
