They started how they finished last season, when No. 1 Allatoona beat No. 2 Glynn in the AAAAA title game. Their opening-game defeats marked only the 12th time since 1982, when the Atlanta Journal and Atlanta Constitution merged their sports departments and began publishing one football poll, that No. 1 and No. 2 in one classification have fallen during the same week.
