Two 2015 state champions are 0-3, but the prognosis for Allatoona and Colquitt County is much better than in the olden days. The first eight state champions to start the next season 0-3 finished with losing records. The last five came back to have winning records and advanced at least one round in the playoffs. It could be that recent successful teams have tended to play more aggressive schedules. Of the last seven state champions to start the following season 0-3, four played and lost their opening games in the Corky Kell Classic - 1998 Parkview, 1998 Thomas County Central, 2000 Oconee County and 2016 Colquitt County. It occurred each time in an even year, meaning those schedule contracts were signed just weeks after winning their championships.
