J.B. Arnold, in his 18th season at Jefferson County, made some local history in 2017 that escaped the media's attention, and perhaps his own, when he became the winningest coach in Jefferson County history. That would not be the school, but the county, which once fielded three Class A football teams - Wrens, Louisville and Wadley. Charles Rutland, who led Wrens to state runner-up finishes in 1982 and 1983, was Jefferson County's first head coach in 1995, when the high schools merged. Rutland won 158 games in the county. Arnold, who succeeded Rutland in 2001, has won 159.
